Image-Line’s FL Studio Guru Series presents a simple tutorial demonstrating how to sample your VST instruments into FL Studio DirectWave. The VST version of DirectWave is the only version that supports audio recording so be sure that DirectWave VST is running to accomplish this task. Your recorded VST can also be saved as audio loop files within the DirectWave browser (right-panel). I like!

Quicker Slice Routing in SliceX (FL Studio 8.5)

Though I wish you could simply right click a Marker and select a Mixer Insert from that Markers menu in SliceX, the new FL Studio 8.5 Public Beta has a much quicker way (than FL8) for routing (Output Track Offset) your SliceX markers to a desired Mixer Insert. This is ideal when working with any kind of samples, especially drums. (ex. a Kick slice routed to Mixer Insert 2 with Reverb – Snare slice routed to Insert 3 with Delay – and so on…)

In the current FL Studio 8, you’d have to scroll through the Mixer Insert numbers which would be a pain if you had to route to lets say Insert…54. By the time you get there, you’d have had to extend your arm forward with your mouse or ease up your mouse, bring your arm back to then continue scrolling. Not anymore!!!! But again, it would be great if you could just right click the Marker and select the Mixer Insert from the Marker’s menu. This is also cool when building your own custom drumkits in SliceX.

Hip Hop Is Read 2008 Samples of the Year Download List

Ivan over at HipHopIsRead has released the 2008 Samples of Year download package list featuring the interestingly popular simple-sampled track “A Milli” (a mere vocal sample down-pitch screw) by Super Producer Bangladesh for Lil’ Waynes Carter 3 album, T.I’s “Whatever You Like”, Lupe’s 90′s sounding-classic “Paris, Tokyo”, ‘Ye West’s “Swagga Like Us” and more. The list is packaged into a downloadable file to see how the producers flipped, cut-up and sampled the original music.

Is Sampling Dying?

I was recently in a local Chapters bookstore reading an article by Matthew Newton over at SPIN Magazine who asks, is sampling dying?

From the RZA speaking on new biz-opportunities for publishing and sample clearance, to Kanye West no longer using samples in his latest works and a court-case that would forever change the sampling world, the question remains, is sampling dying and how is it affecting the art of hip-hop?

German Courts on Sampling : Free Use

An interesting read over at the Standford Cyberlaw division. Zohar Efroni writes that “The German Supreme Court (BGH) clarified last week that sampling does not infringe on copyright in the work from which samples were taken for the purpose of creating a new work.”

It’s always refreshing to see how sampling is being handled by the law. FREE USE!
