As shown in the video, samples can be recorded directly into individual pads. Take a look!

According to zee at the Intua Beatmaker Discussion Forum, 2nd Gen iPod Touch Music Producers can record and sample audio (even Phantom Powered mics ?!?!?) into Beatmaker.

He states that “you’re NOT restricted to crappy headset mics!”

He instructs that you first attach (to your 2nd Gen iPod Touch) a Belkin AV Cable as shown below:

This cable has 3 cable connections:

1 – Left Audio Output

1 – Right Audio Output

1 – Mono Audio Input

Then find which of the connectors is the INPUT cable and connect it to an XLR/RCA Adapter as shown below:

Then zee has ONE FINAL STEP :

“ATTACH ANY DYNAMIC MICROPHONE YOU WANT! You could even attach the output from a mixer to it so that you can adjust the input levels and use phantom powered mics! You could attach your guitar!”

If you have a 2nd Generation iPod Touch Music Producer using the Intua Beatmaker app, then please try this out and let me know how this all works out. Thanks!

Do you think it’s cool to reveal the samples a Producer has used for their songs?

Hip hop is an art form that has always used samples and flipped ‘em. Some samples are obvious while others are obscure b-sides, or underrated, unheard of tunes that have been chopped up by producers and served as a whole new dish for the discerning head’s palate. So I ask, Is it cool to reveal the sources of the sample? It’s pretty standard to hear sample diggers/ producers/ vinyl junkies saying “Yo, I already sampled that” or “Yeah, I know that sample”…often it makes them feel better about being a legend in their own mind, in the basement or lab listening to a sample in a song they’ve already flipped. But ‘heat’ from labels, putting producers on blast and sample clearance issues have caused many hip hop producers to opt for a ‘sampleless’ sound. This ‘sampleless’ sound is not always a sound hip hop aficionados are feeling.

Some feel this change, this growing trend of ‘sampleless’ beats softens the sound of beats. Obviously, there are deeper issues than snitchin’ at stake here! The main question ‘Is the face of hip hop production gonna change’ more with more and more producers using less samples to avoid clearance issues. Hip hop has always been an art of making something out of nothing. The ’sample’ is the basis of many a classic hip hop tune.
