In this edition of FAQ Fridays, I’ll be addressing a very common question asked amongst the SampleSimple community as well as many other beat production communities all over the Internet: What Do I Need To Record Audio into FL Studio?
Well, if you’ve ever wanted to record and sample vinyl from your turntable, record your vocals on top of a beat, or sample FM radio then you’ll need to make sure you have these key components in place:
Producer Edition or higher – you can only record (external) audio into FL studio if you own the Producer Edition
or the XXL Edition. The Fruity Edition does not allow you to record external audio as it does not have ASIO support.
ASIO Soundcard (or virtual ASIO driver) – You must have an ASIO based soundcard installed or have a virtual ASIO soundcard driver installed like the ASIO4ALL driver that comes prepackaged in FL Studio 8. Simply select your ASIO soundcard driver from the Audio Settings (F10) window.
Mixer INput – To bring audio into FL Studio you need to select your ASIO soundcard driver name in the Mixer Insert Track IN box for the track you’d like to record on.
Those are the key components needed to record audio into FL Studio. To get a better idea of how this works, also check out the SampleSimple tutorial videos below:
